Cochlear
Implants: Info from Wikipedia
How They Work:
A
cochlear implant is an electronic device that is surgically implanted
to provide a sense of sound to those who are profoundly deaf or severely
hard of hearing. The implant is different from a hearing aide in
the fact that it doesn't amplify sound. Instead, the device works
by stimulating any working auditory nerves inside the cochlea with
electrical impulses. The external components of the implant features
a speech processor, transmitter and microphone.
Under the right conditions, the implant can give a
deaf person an understanding of the environment and speech although
post-operative therapy is required.
Do Cochlear Implants Cure Deafness?
A cochlear implant will not cure deafness
or hearing impairment, but is a prosthetic substitute for hearing.
Some recipients find them very effective, others somewhat effective
and some feel overall worse off with the implant than without.
For people already functional in spoken language who
lose their hearing, cochlear implants can be a great help in restoring
functional comprehension of speech, especially if they have only
lost their hearing for a short time. Those that grow up with cochlear
implants can find greater success in the use then those who have
grown up without and have never heard sound before.

PIC
of the MOMENT

There have been several on again off again moments in Kendall and
Greenlee's relationship. This is the first "off" moment to continue
on our trip down Kendall and Greenlee lane. After Ryan proposed to
Kendall she went to the bridal fair at the Valley Inn. Greenlee was
one of the models and Kendall tried on the same dress Greenlee had.
Needless to say, a fight broke out in front of everyone as both ladies
attempted to remove the dress from the competition.

NEW
VILLIAN IN TOWN

It's not easy being the bad guy
in town and it seems like Pine Valley is the vacation spot for
villians. Recent ones of mention range from rapist Michael Cambias,
to baby mastermind Greg Madden. Will Richie top the list of evil-doers
in Pine Valley or will he be tame compared to the others?

Will Spike Hear Again?
Thanks to AMC for taking on another reality story.
Spike has lost his hearing thanks to Greenlee and a bad spill over
a cliff. The question is how to fix this broken little boy and how
to get his hearing back for good so he doesn't miss out on the wonders
of the world. With a strong mother and a rich father and stepfather,
can Spike hope to one day hear again? When news arrives that his
chance with cochlear implants may not work, what other options does
this young boy have? Will AMC take Spike on a life without sound?
Or will they say enough is enough and shed some positive light on
