Blood,
Sweat and Tears |
As diligent as Alicia
Minshew is at portraying Kendall, the actress admits there
was a time prior to joining AMC when she didn't realize
just how much effort went into inhabiting a character on
a daytime program. "Since I've been on AMC, I have developed
a newfound respect for soap actors. Soaps get a bad rap--and
even I was of that thinking. But now that I'm on one, I
see how hard people work." Minshew notes that when Kendall
is having a particularly troubled day, she just taps into
what her alter ego is truly feeling to get ehr the results
she needs. Still, some days are more difficult then others.
"To do what we do day after day with very little rehearsal,
having all of your lines memorized, looking good on top
of it, and trying to have some real emotion going on...it's
not easy!!!"

On
the ROAD! |
| For the actors, going
on location for a soap opera is probably what taking a field
trip is like for elementary school kids. Just ask Alicia Minshew,
who experienced it for
the first time when AMC shot Ryan and Greenlee's wedding.
"It's just such a different atmosphere," she says.
"We're not in the same studio. When you're on location,
the reality is there and you have so much to feed off of."
And despite Minshew's loyalty to her alter ego--who wound
up heartbroken after she didn't get the guy---she couldn't
help but see teh humor of yet another catfight between Kendall
and Greenlee. "On Kendall's end, there was nothing funny
about it. But fighting in the water in dresses, That's funny!" |
Modern
Maturity |
Finding a new place to
live can be rather daunting, but for Alicia Minshew buying
her own apartment has been downright liberating! "I have
to say I'm proud. The other day I said, 'I'm buying an apartment.
I'm going to pick it and I'm going to own it!'" During
her search for the perfect place, Minshew explains that
she has seen quite a variety of good and....well, not so
good. "It's really interesting to see what's out there.
There's so much, but there's a lot of crap out there too!"
Nevertheless, Minshew's latest venture has her feeling rather
mature as of late. "The biggest thing I ever bought was
a computer or a couch, which was a big deal to me," she
says. "But I'm buying my own home, so I'm feeling very adult-like
these days."

Silver
Lining |
For many children, the
divorce of their parents can have an extremely negative
affect upon them. But for Alicia Minshew, that as not the
case. "My parents are divorced, but it was a very happy
divorce, if that makes any sense," she says. "They are very
good friends and even closer now than when they were married."
Minshew of course, admits that there will always be a part
of her that still wishes her parents were still together,
but she reconginzes that things worked out the best way
that they could. "I'm an adult no and I see that both of
them are happy," she explains. "I'm very lucky because they
were great parents and I had a very happy childhood. We're
a healthy family. I mean, I think that every family has
their dysfunctional sides because there's always something,
but my parents brought us up to be very open, and I think
that helped."
